¡ESPAÑA GANA LA EUROCOPA! (click to listen)

Incredible, what a match, what an atmosphere, the Red has driven the Spaniards crazy! Yesterday, since 7 pm you could hear people singing, you could see children and parents dressed in red and Spanish flags all over the places. The red fever was here! It is a pleasure to see a country with so many rival teams be now united in a single cause.

The truth is that the match was thrilling. There were many clear goal-scoring opportunities, like when Torres hit the post, but we eventually overcame the suffering with the Kid's goal. It's funny how it was Torres the one who scored the victory goal, because the other day, when he was being interviewed on tv, when he was asked how he wanted to be remembered once the Euro2008 is over, he said: “I want to be the player scoring the decisive goal on the final”. Well, his dream has come true...

Being on the European final means a lot to the Spaniards. Even Fernando Alonso was sitting in the stands! It is also important to highlight the presence of the Spanish President and the King and Queen of Spain. The Queen, besides being dressed in red, had the Spanish flag painted on her forehead and cheeks. She is a real fan!

You can imagine people's excitement when the match finished! Santo Domingo square (León), where basketball, handball, formula one and football victories are celebrated was packed with people! Everybody was there! In León people are very fond of sports, especially of handball, because El Ademar, the local handball team, has won many titles. However, the joy is not only in León, wherever there is a group of Spaniards there is celebration. Even in Australia some people got up at 4am to watch the match...

LIVERPOOL'S NUMBER 9

Now that the European Championship has kicked off it is a good moment to talk about one of the most popular sports in Spain: football. And what better way to do so than by remembering one of the best and most sought-after Spanish players in England (especially in Liverpool): Fernando Torres.

Torres was born in Madrid in 1984. At the age of 10 he entered the Atletico Madrid ranks and at 18 he made his professional debut in the big leagues. Due to his youth he is affectionately called “The Kid” and among his many deeds it is important to point to out that he scored 23 goals during the season 2003-2004. However, Torres' life changes in 2007, when he joins Liverpool for 25 million pounds, the most expensive signing in the history of the English Club.

If it is a fact that Torres used to be appreciated in Spain for being such a good player, in England he is worshipped, and proof of this is the song created by the followers of the English Club. Listening to it gives you goosebumps!...here you have the link (lyrics included). According to Torres, his life has changed for the better since he is living in Liverpool. Every time he is interviewed he talks about the respect people have in England for football players. He has gone from not being able to walk on the streets of Madrid to go shopping or have dinner at restaurants without being harassed by people.

Although Fernando Torres is well-known for being a great football player, not everybody knows about his acting skills...Torres has had more than one star appearances on the big screen, as when he made a cameo in “Torrente 3” or in Spanish tv series “Siete Vidas”. Well, another Torres' star appearance was in a "El Canto del Loco" music video, a famous Spanish band. In the song the football player loses his girlfriend (starring actress Natalia Verbeke), who ditches him for the band lead singer...Don't miss it!
