"Operación Triunfo", para bien o para mal, es un fenómeno mediático en España, y se podría definir como una mezcla entre "American Idol" y "Gran Hermano". Tras ser seleccionados entre miles de candidatos, los doce concursantes tienen que versionar una serie de canciones conocidas, y suelen ser en español o en inglés. Después de ensayar cada canción durante una semana, los triunfitos (así se les llama a los concursantes) tienen que demostrar su valía como artistas ante el público y el jurado en una gala en directo, y al final de ésta uno de ellos es expulsado.
En un principio el programa fue emitido con el propósito de que el ganador representara a España en Eurovisión, pero esta idea solo duró tres años. Hay que destacar que la edición que más éxito ha tenido fue la primera, de donde salieron cantantes que incluso han conseguido fama internacional, como David Bisbal, David Bustamante o Chenoa. Ahora está teniendo lugar la sexta edición, que está triunfando debido a lo polémicos que están siendo los concursantes.
A mí, como seguidora del reality, el concursante que más me interesa este año es Chipper, un norteamericano de 34 años que ingresó en Operación Triunfo tras haber vivido en España sólo tres meses y sin apenas saber español. En los resúmenes del programa suelen dedicar unos minutos a las clases particulares de español que le dan en la Academia. Y es que desde el punto de vista del aprendizaje de segundas lenguas es de lo más interesante. El otro día emitían cómo el americano pronunciaba las vocales como si tuvieran una “h” aspirada delante (en español la h es sorda ), y para corregirle este error la profesora le hacía poner la palma de la mano cerca de la boca para que notara cómo salía el aire. De esta forma Chipper se daba cuenta de que si notaba el aire en la mano significaba que estaba pronunciando mal y que si no lo notaba estaba pronunciando correctamente.
No he encontrado el video de esa clase en internet, pero he encontrado el de otra clase interesante. Me llama la atención cómo, antes de leer un texto, se dedican a dividir las palabras en sílabas, pero pronunciando sólo las vocales. Por ejemplo, en vez de decir directamente “Tengo hambre”, dicen “ e-o a-e”.

"Operación Triunfo", for better or for worse, is a media phenomenon in Spain, and it could be defined as a combination of "American Idol" and "Big Brother". After being selected from thousands of candidates, twelve contestants have to do covers of well-known songs, and they are usually in Spanish or English. After rehearsing each song for a week, the “triunfitos” (that's how people call them, taking into account the name of the show) have to prove themselves as artists on a live show in front of the audience and the jury, and at the end one of them is expelled.
Initially, the program was broadcast with a specific purpose: choosing the Spanish representative for Eurovision, but this idea only lasted for three years. It is important to take into account that the first season was the most successful of them all, with some of the singers attaining international fame, such as David Bisbal, David Bustamante or Chenoa. Currently the sixth season is taking place and it is being a huge success due to its controversial contestants.
As a follower of the reality, I believe the most interesting contestant is Chipper, a 34 year-old northamerican guy that joined Operación Triunfo after having been living in Spain for three months and barely knowing any Spanish. In the programme summaries they usually devote a few minutes to Chipper's Spanish classes. From a second language learning point of view they are very interesting. The other day they were broadcasting how Chipper mispronounced Spanish vowels, breathing out as if he they were preceded by an aspirated “h”(in Spanish this is a silent sound). In order to correct Chipper, the teacher took his hand and put it close to his mouth so that he would notice the stream of air coming out. This way Chipper learned that if he notices the air on the hand he would be mispronouncing.
I haven't found the video of this class on the net, but I have found another interesting class. It draw my attention that before reading a piece of text, they divide words into syllables, pronouncing just the vowels. For example, instead of saying “Tengo hambre”, they say “e-o a-e”.
